This year’s recipient meets the Swedish public
Guus Kuijer, this year’s recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), is visiting Sweden next week. The Dutch author is coming to Stockholm to take part in a week of events surrounding the award ceremony, including appearances at Kulturhuset and Riksdagsbiblioteket (the parliamentary library). This year’s award week runs from 22 to 29 May.

The recipient or recipients of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA), the world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature, will be announced on Tuesday 20 March at 1 pm. This year, 184 candidates from 66 countries are nominated.

The world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature is turning ten years old in 2012. The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (ALMA) has contributed to raising the status of books for children and young people for a decade now. Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth, Sweden’s Minister for Culture, says:

184 candidates from 66 countries are nominated for the world’s largest award for children’s and young adult literature. This was revealed today at the Frankfurt Book Fair by Larry Lempert, Chairman of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award jury. The figures show a distinct increase compared to last year.
