SILVA launches their first recycled product

The Swedish outdoor brand SILVA has started a new journey into a greener future and a more sustainable product assortment. With the launch of their first recycled product called R-PET dry bags, made out from recycled PET-bottles, they are taking their first step to become a more environmentally sustainable company.

– We are a product and design driven company that produce consumer products with batteries, plastics, electronics, etcetera. This, in combination with the type of activities we are promoting, outdoor activities in the great outdoors, further strengthen the fact that we need to care more about our consumers and our planet, Richard Jägrud clarifies, CEO at SILVA.

SILVA were founded in 1933 by three orienteering brothers. The nature and the forest have always been their playground and source of inspiration. It’s a long journey to become a sustainable company and brand, but with the launch of their first recycled product they have taken the first step. The recycled product is called ​R-PET dry bags. The name of the product stands for recycled PET-bottles. The dry bags are lightweight, durable and available in five sizes (3L, 6L, 12L, 24L, 36L) but most importantly, they are made of 100% recycled materials. The advantage of using recycled PET-bottles is that no further petroleum is needed. It also requires less consumption of water and energy than production of virgin polyester.

– We are so proud to launch our first recycled product, but we’re humble at the same time. We know that we need to do more, to care more about our planet and all the people that we’re sharing the planet with, but we must start somewhere. We are putting pressure on our suppliers regarding restrictions in terms of the materials we’re using and internally we are working alongside the principles of reuse, reduce and recycle. We have taken an important step by transforming our packaging to be recycled, recyclable and erased almost all plastics. This together with the launch of R-PET as our first green product is our way of taking responsibility, and there is more to come”, says Marcus Hjortsberg, Product Manager at SILVA.

The RPET dry bags are available in stores from March 2020 and the price range from 14.99 – 29.99 EUR.
