ISPO Award Winner 2023: Silva Free Series

The Swedish outdoor brand Silva presented the first liquid-filled compass in 1933, and already in 1935, the first headlamp – the Zeiler – was introduced. Ever since, Silva has continued to develop outdoor products for both world athletes and everyday adventurers. The new Free series is the latest innovation to be launched in September, a global innovation and the world’s first true modular headlamp series. The new headlamp series has now been announced as an ISPO Award 2023 winner.

With the modular Silva Free Headlamp series, everything is interchangeable for greater use. You might use different headlamps for different purposes to create the best possible outdoor experience when running, mountain biking or skiing. Now you won’t need to buy a different headlamp for each different sport anymore, but still have the option to customize according to the exercise you want to do today.

Mix and match your headlamp

Silva Free is the world’s first true modular headlamp series. Choose between three different lamp units, four batteries and three mount options. The lamp units are available as 1200, 2000 and 3000 lumen. Battery packs are available in 14.4, 24.4, 36 and 72 Wh. All parts and accessories are interchangeable, so you don’t need to buy a new headlamp for your different activities. This means that you can not only switch between batteries – you can also change lamp units. Simply just buy another lamp unit, battery or mount kit option to your setup. Besides the headband, there’s a mount kit for GoPro, handlebar and helmet available.

Go for 3000 lumen when you want to go full speed and need lots of light. Choose 2000 lumen for high speed activities in demanding terrain like ski mountaineering, mountain biking and trail running. 1200 lumen is the ultimate choice for ski touring, XC-skiing, trail running or simply just walking with your dog.

Likewise you can also choose the optimal battery for your activity. The smaller the battery the lighter and smoother feeling on the back of your head. The bigger the battery the longer it will keep you going.

Improved cooling with Airflow Technology

When we designed our new headlamp series, we wanted to create more out of less. Less cords, less hassle, less complexity. We reduced everything that was unnecessary and improved on existing technology. Silva Free offers stronger light in a smaller lamp head, with the new airflow technology that keeps the lamp head cool despite all the lumen.

“Cooling is essential for how well the headlamp performs. We invented the airflow technology and included an integrated aluminum cooler in the design because we wanted you to have great light regardless of what activity you do, even if you are standing still taking a break. The result is higher quality light from a cooler lamp”, says Joel Engfeldt, Project Manager at Silva.

Silva Free series also has the power cord integrated in the headband so you never need to bother with distracting cords or tangled wires ever again. Still the series is water resistant, as both headlamp and battery packs meet IPX5 standards. There are three different brightness levels available as well as flow light, intelligent light and a safety light option and battery indicator.

As a whole, Silva Free gives you more light in a smaller, smoother and more versatile headlamp.
