Hurtigruten ship returns to its original name – MS Finnmarken


Oslo, Norway (April 11, 2025) – One of Hurtigruten’s most well-known ship names is returning to the fleet. From mid-May 2025, the ship currently operating as MS Otto Sverdrup will be known by its original name: MS Finnmarken.
“Finnmarken is a name rich in history and meaning – for our guests, our employees, and the Norwegian coast,” said Hedda Felin, CEO of Hurtigruten.

Sea Zero Takes Shape: Hurtigruten Reveals Updated Ship Design After Successful Model Testing in Norway

Hurtigruten’s vision for the world’s most energy-efficient cruise ship is advancing, with its groundbreaking Sea Zero project recently completing a new phase of rigorous testing at SINTEF Ocean’s facilities in Trondheim. Large battery packs, retractable sails, air lubrication systems, contra-rotating propellers and an energy-optimised hull are among the innovations being evaluated.

Hurtigruten named most sustainable brand within the travel & tourism industry in Norway


For the second year running, Norwegian consumers have named Hurtigruten the most sustainable brand in Norway within the travel and tourism category.
In the 2025 Sustainable Brand Index survey, where 10,000 Norwegian consumers were asked about their perceptions of various brands' sustainability efforts, Hurtigruten ranked highest in the travel category.
