Grand Hôtel Achieves Accreditation For Covid-19 Safety Measures

The Grand Hôtel in Stockholm is the first hotel in Sweden to achieve the Global Advisory Council (GBAC) STAR™ facility accreditation for its stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and biorisk preparedness. The accreditation demonstrates that the hotel actively implements best-practice cleaning processes to prevent the spread of infection, including COVID-19.

GBAC STAR™ Facility Accreditation verifies that the Grand Hôtel applies the most stringent cleaning protocols and procedures to secure a clean and healthy environment for guests, employees and other stakeholders. Accreditation is awarded to facilities that demonstrate compliance with the program’s extensive list of requirements such as advanced cleaning, disinfection and proactive infectious disease prevention, which must be at the core of the company’s standard operating procedures. Grand Hôtel is now a part of an elite group of facilities around the world that clean and disinfect at gold standard.

In addition to regular cleaning processes, the Grand Hôtel has identified ten high-touch hotel room focus areas that require more frequent deep cleaning. Furthermore, the hotel has deployed new guidelines encompassing the reception area, public areas, restaurants, conference and banquet rooms, and employees. The guidelines, which the hotel has been following since spring 2020, include several high-contact points and areas that are cleaned and disinfected every hour to minimize the risk of spread of infection.

Throughout the Covid-19-pandemic we have been focused on optimizing our cleaning processes at the hotel to minimize the spread of infection. We have implemented a series of new protocols and procedures to maintain as clean and healthy an environment as possible for our guests and employees alike. This work includes continuously cleaning the entire hotel every hour, and hotel rooms twice a day,” says Pia Djupmark, CEO, Grand Hôtel. “The global accreditation is proof that our cleaning and disinfection work maintains the highest international standards, like all areas of our hotel operations. Exactly where we want to be.

In 2020, the Grand Hôtel also started using Tersano, a new type of cleaning agent. This state-of-the-art cleaning product applies aqueous ozone technology, which disinfects all types of surfaces and objects in climate-friendly way. It has passed all tests in inactivating COVID-19, and is also effective against other types of viruses such as hepatitis, the measles, etc.

Accreditation is awarded by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of ISSA, the world’s leading trade association for the cleaning industry.
