Grand Hôtel: Stockholm’s 150-year-old five-star hotel and culinary destination
Founded in 1874, the Grand Hôtel Stockholm is Sweden’s international-level five-star luxury hotel and premier culinary destination. Throughout its 150-year history, the Hôtel has hosted Scandinavia’s most honoured guests - from heads of state like Princess Grace and Prince Rainier of Monaco, to global stars like Frank Sinatra and Greta Garbo, to Nobel laureates like Martin Luther King Jr.
One of Stockholm’s most storied historic venues, Grand Hôtel is situated on the city’s world-famous waterfront, directly overlooking Sweden’s Royal Palace and the Old Town. The Hôtel has 279 rooms, 70 suites, nine signature suites, seven distinct concept restaurants and bars, and an extensive wellness complex.
French chef Jean-François Régis Cadier founded the Grand as the first continental-style luxury hotel in Scandinavia. Trailblazing hotelier Wilhelmina Skogh served as Manager from 1902, and her profound impact on the hospitality industry is echoed by current CEO Pia Djupmark, who has revolutionised the stewardship of the traditional luxury hotel in her ten-year tenure.
Sweden’s premier culinary destination
Housing seven distinct concept restaurants and bars, the Grand Hôtel offers a breathtaking array of culinary experiences for guests.
This food and beverage offering is supported by an in-house Michelin-starred chef, an in-house butcher, a florist department, a rooftop apiary tended by a beekeeper, a sustainable vertical kitchen garden, a dedicated pastry department, round-the-clock room service, and what is believed to be Sweden’s most extensive wine collection.
Dining and drinking destinations within the Hôtel include:
- The Veranda - The Hôtel's historic summer verandas, constructed over a century ago, now house a permanent restaurant, providing a magnificent sea-view dining experience. Travellers come from around the world for the Veranda’s classic Swedish dishes like smörgåsbord, served with the Hôtel’s own-recipe schnapps.
- The Cadier Bar - Everybody feels at home at the Cadier Bar, which hosts a living room atmosphere within its magnificent structure. Overseen by the previous bartender of the Langham, London, the Cadier Bar is a popular gathering spot for people from across the globe, from revellers, to business professionals, to incognito celebrities.
- Seafood Gastro - Culinary enthusiasts should not miss Mathias Dahlgren’s extraordinary tasting menu, for a gastronomic experience featuring only ingredients found in, by, or on the water. Seafood Gastro has been awarded a star in the Michelin Guide.
- The Champagne Bar - Boasting an extensive selection that caters to all preferences, whether it's a 2015 Ruinart vintage or a quick pre-dinner glass of 2012 Dom Pérignon.
- The Grand Soleil - This venue’s name and design pay homage to the sun-kissed aesthetic of the French Riviera, creating a warm, sun-drenched atmosphere evocative of the Mediterranean coast.
- The Grand Café - In one of the small buildings on the quay in front of the Hôtel, you’ll find the Grand Café. Besides coffee, the menu includes delicious salads and sandwiches along with sweet treats delivered straight from our patisserie.
- Sweden’s finest wine cellar - The wine cellar, one of Sweden's most comprehensive, offers a remarkable collection, including 1874 Mouton Rothschild (bottled the year the hotel opened) and 1914 Pol Roger. With 2,500 bottles across 2,500 labels, the emphasis is on classic European wines complemented by select choices from the New World.
The wellness offering
The Grand Hôtel Spa and Fitness complex embodies a characteristically Nordic emphasis on well-being and nature. Incorporating Rauk stones from Gotland and granite from Grythyttan in its walls, the Spa’s design ensures guests feel connected to nature whilst inside the spa. This indoor/outdoor blend is enhanced by the invigorating outdoor chill complementing the spa's indoor warmth, with body scrubs and luxury beauty packs as part of the experience. The Spa features a sauna, a full-length pool, and warm and cool dipping pools. Guests can visit the Grand Hôtel’s doctor of traditional Chinese medicine, its chiropractor, and its massage therapists. Guests are also invited to book a private spa experience, offering exclusive access to the sauna and pool as well as a lounge area with treatment beds.
The Hôtel gym’s prime waterfront location enables guests and members to work out using state-of-the-art Technogym equipment whilst taking in the breathtaking panoramic views of the city and the Royal Palace. The gym provides members and guests with access to some of Sweden’s top personal trainers as well as the Grand’s private Yoga studio. Finally, no session at the Grand Hôtel gym would be complete without a trip to the Fitness Bar which serves meals as delicious as they are healthy.
Comfort, discretion, security
As the preferred accommodation of Stockholm’s most illustrious guests, including world leaders and global entertainment stars, Grand Hôtel is one of Scandinavia’s most secure locations, with a dedicated, 24-hour in-house security department, close relationships with Sweden’s secret service and Stockholm’s police department, and a government-grade surveillance system. Guest privacy and security are unparalleled, underpinning a unique and discreet atmosphere that means you never know who you may end up sitting next to at the Cadier Bar.
Pia Djupmark, CEO of Grand Hôtel, comments: “The Grand Hôtel is Scandinavia’s foremost luxury hotel, and we proudly blend history and modernity to create an experience unlike any other. The soul of the Grand is to always make people feel welcome; to be the perfect host. We welcome anyone, from anywhere in the world, to step through our storied front doors and experience the true hospitality of Stockholm.”
