STAMMA Appoints a New Chair

After an extensive search, Roger Pim will lead the Board of Trustees at the charity, after illness forced Joanna Gaukroger to step down.

Roger Pim first got involved in the charity in 2004 as a founding Board member of the Scottish Branch of the British Stammering Association (now STAMMA), where he was involved until 2007. In his professional capacity Roger is a Senior Investment Director at Abrdn.

Acting Chair Paul Fix will continue in post until October, when he will formally hand over the reins to the Chair Elect.

Roger said “I look forward to working with the Chief Executive and Trustees to build on the fantastic work undertaken to date; to develop its strategy and help drive strong fundraising so that STAMMA has a robust financial base and provides the maximum benefit to the wider stammering community.

Paul Fix commented, “It has been an absolute privilege to be Acting Chair at STAMMA for the past eight months. I am delighted to have Roger join the team as we enter a new three-year strategy creating ‘Space to Stammer’. Roger brings financial acumen and a passion for challenging discrimination, along with lived experience as someone who stammers.”

Roger’s appointment came after an extensive search and recruitment process with Peridot Partners.

About STAMMA

As a charity, STAMMA has been representing people who stammer since 1978. We stand up for and embolden those who stammer, provide support and information, and challenge discrimination wherever we find it.

We exist to create a world that makes space for stammering. Where it's embraced as just a difference. Where no-one is judged on their stammer or the way they choose to deal with it. We’ll get there by bringing people together, whether they stammer or not, to propel a movement for change.
