STAMMA Appoints a New Chair

STAMMA has appointed Roger Pim as its new Chair, who will sit on the Board as Chair Elect until October when Acting Chair Paul Fix will formally hand over the reins. Roger first got involved in the charity in 2004, as a founding Board member of the Scottish Branch of the British Stammering Association (now STAMMA). The vacancy came about when Joanna Gaukroger stood down for health reasons.

BRAND RECOGNITION FOR STAMMA AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH

An omnibus poll conducted by YouGov on 25th January 2024 showed that brand recognition for STAMMA, the British Stammering Association, stands at a record high of 19%. This has risen dramatically since 2018, when only 2% were able to identify them as a charity for people who stammer.

DECLARATION OF THE RIGHT TO STUTTER

STAMMA have joined 61 other organisations around the world calling for the Right to Stutter on International Stammering Awareness Day. On a day normally flooded with stories about overcoming, STAMMA and other organisations are pushing instead for stammering to be accepted.

Six year old Gabriel Brown and his best friend and classmate Missy Grimes are running in the 1.5 KM Mini Great Manchester Run this Sunday in aid of STAMMA, and its support for parents of children who stammer. Together, they’ve raised a whopping £1,126.

25,000 PETITION TO BE DELIVERED TO BBC AND ITV 22ND OCTOBER

Less than half the population can name a character in TV or film who stammers; of those that were able to name someone, most entered either King George VI (The King's Speech) or Arkwright from Open All Hours. This is an indictment of media representation of people who stammer.

International Conference on Stammering 24-28th August

INTERNATIONAL STAMMERING CONFERENCE LIVERPOOL 24th-28th August: “STAMMAFest Global”

STAMMA are holding an international stammering conference at Liverpool University, 24-28 August. A 5-day extravaganza which incorporates STAMMA’s biennial conference and the International Stuttering Association’s (ISA) World Congress. Speakers include actor and podcaster Scroobius Pip, author Hannah Tovey, Poet Owen Sheers and activist Patrick Campbell.

Approximately 8% of children will stammer at some point, commonly starting between the ages of 2-5.

Conference for Parents & Children who stammer, 27th August, Liverpool University

Help us to promote free places for children and parents who are Speech and Language Therapy clients living in Liverpool or Sefton. This one day conference aims to give children and teenagers who stammer a chance to connect with others and provide a space for parents of young people who stammer to share their experiences.

STAMMA SUPPORTS LAUNCH OF BBC STAMMERING NETWORK

The BBC will launch its Internal Stammering Support Network tomorrow. Combined STAMMA Conference & ISA World Congress 2022 to be held in Liverpool

STAMMA, the British Stammering Association, are delighted to announce that they will be hosting the 2022 International Stuttering Association (ISA) World Congress in Liverpool. Founded in 1978, STAMMA, the British Stammering Association, is a national registered charity dedicated to creating a better world for people who stammer. Through its website, stamma.org, helpline and backing of local meetup and self-help groups, STAMMA provides information and support for people who stammer and those living, supporting or working with them. STAMMA is a membership organisation with members taking an active role in the election of trustees and in the strategic direction of the charity.
