The five largest ski resorts in Scandinavia, operated by SkiStar, kickstart the ski season ahead of schedule

The cold weather over the past month has created optimal conditions for snow production and snowfall has made the Scandinavian terrain magical. SkiStar's ski resorts Vemdalen and Sälen opened for the season in early November. Next up to open are Åre, Trysil and Hemsedal. SkiStar, the market leader in Scandinavia alpine tourism, expect a long Scandinavian ski season that extends to 1 May.

Ski travel operator SkiStar is investing heavily to develop Hundfjället in Sälen into a world-class ski resort. Scandinavia's newest express lift will be making its debut this winter, while a new accommodation concept and a brand new international airport will be opening within a few years and making the resort completely unique. Other highlights the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre.

Strong bookings continue and favourable snow conditions pave the way for yet another good winter season

​Comments from the CEO Mats Årjes: Winter has arrived at our destinations and from week 49, all our ski resorts have opened for the season with good snow conditions. In addition to a covering of natural snow, the conditions for snow production have been good. Bookings, expressed as the number of overnight stays, are 2 percent higher than at the same point in the previous year.

SkiStars famous and popular children’s character Valle the snowman was already in his first winter in St. Johann a success for families who visited St. Johann. Now in the second winter Valle will introduce his unique ski school. Valle’s ski school teaches all kids from 3 to 9 years how to ski and to be safe and secure skiers with educated ski instructors from St. Johann’s local ski schools.

Throughout the winter it's been possible to fly direct from London Gatwick to Åre/Östersund Airport with easyJet, and then reach Åre and Vemdalen by direct transfer. This increased accessibility for Londoners via easyJet's direct line, combined with the fact that more Britons are travelling to the resorts via a Stockholm to Åre/Östersund flights, have led to an upturn in ski tourism from the UK.
