Press release -
SkiStar continues its growth journey and invests a further SEK 598 million by 2023/24: New express lift in Hemsedal
In recent years, SkiStar has transformed from a winter company focused on lift and piste, to a company that creates memorable mountain experiences all year round. An important investment decision has now been made to further develop the company's mountain facilities in Sweden and Norway. First up is a new six-chair lift in Hemsedal for next winter.
The investments of over half a billion SEK for the financial year 2023/24 will focus primarily on winter operations with more modern lift systems, better slopes and more efficient snow production. An important part concerns a brand new six-chair lift in Hemsedal, Lodge Express. In addition, investments are made in summer activities and business development.
"We want to develop our mountain resorts all year round, while the winter season remains our biggest activity. To ensure both the future of mountain tourism and the satisfaction of our guests, we are investing in concrete and better ski experiences here and now. That's why it feels particularly good to be able to present a completely new lift in Hemsedal as early as next winter," says Stefan Sjöstrand, President and CEO of SkiStar AB.
Hemsedal, often called Scandinavia's answer to the Alps, is Norway's second largest skiing destination with a wide range of activities for skiers of all ages. It offers fantastic skiing down the three summits of Totten, Tinden and Roni with a maximum vertical drop of 830 meters and the longest slope is a full six kilometers.
The new Lodge Express lift will originate from the SkiStar Lodge, giving guests much better access to the ski area without having to transport themselves by button lift through the children's area and then get to the summit by another lift. The Lodge Express will have a capacity of 3000 people/hour and a length of 1733 meters. In addition, an additional button lift will be built in the middle of the ski area adjacent to the park.
"Finally, we can improve the capacity of the ski system and create even more memorable mountain experiences for all our guests. This will do a lot for Hemsedal as a destination, both in winter and in summer. We have been looking forward to this", says Andreas Smith-Erichsen, Destination Manager for SkiStar Hemsedal.
