Press release -

SAINTS WOMEN SCORE £500 FOR HOMELESS AT JYSK ST HELENS

Team members from Saints Women’s RFC absolutely smashed a charity challenge at the new JYSK St Helens store’s VIP evening on Friday.

The women joined VIP guests at the exclusive pre-opening evening event ahead of the store’s Grand Opening the following morning (Saturday 15th June) at St Helens Retail Park just next door to the Saints’ Totally Wicked Stadium – and pitted their sporting skills and competitive team spirit against a timed challenge for the town’s homeless.

Saints Women delivered a resounding victory, earning £500 for the town’s homeless in around a minute as they raced to pass JYSK pillows hand to hand to the top of the store’s stairs. Each pillow earned £5 for homeless people, and JYSK added a further £200 top up bonus.

The store itself went on to smash a JYSK UK sales record for a new store opening weekend with St Helens giving JYSK UK a welcome that started with queues at the opening ceremony and saw steady queues at tills throughout the weekend.

The sneak-preview VIP event, which attracted influencers, community groups, bloggers and media to the Scandinavian-owned global furniture group also welcomed Saints RFC owner Eamonn McManus, St Helens MP Marie Rimmer, the town’s mayor and her consort, representatives from Invest St Helens and Teardrops homeless charity. Country Manager for JYSK UK, David Ashton – the company has already sponsored a Saints match and continues to support the club - gave Mr McManus a tour of the store.

Some of Saints men’s team’s wives and partners also took the opportunity to view the new store, and do a little exclusive shopping ahead of the evening’s rugby kick off while enjoying a glass of Prosecco or a freshly-made mocktail. Other local groups attending included St Helens Soroptimists and WI.
