VINCI Building launches new community skills centre in Radcliffe town centre

VINCI Building is proud to announce the start of Radcliffe’s new community skills programme, based at the construction site of the new Radcliffe Hub.

The programme is open to young people aged 16-24 that are not in employment, education or training. Participants must also live within the Bury borough.

This innovative onsite training centre will provide opportunities to learn important new skills and gain a Level 1 Award in a chosen construction trade.

In partnership with Bury Council, Skills Construction Centre, and Connexions, VINCI Building will also offer training in digital skills, employment and personal development, basic math and English skills, CV preparation, CSCS Card acquisition, plus a minimum of 70 hours of work experience will be provided.

In teaming up with Skills Construction Centre and adopting a collaborative approach among various services, VINCI Building can provide a training environment that offers participants a distinct alternative to mainstream traditional education.

John Roberts Managing Director VINCI Building said "We understand the significant barriers many young people face and believe everyone should be provided with the opportunity to showcase their best qualities.

“Our community skills programme offers a bespoke training environment and extensive work experience, helping participants to develop their work ethic, boost self-esteem and secure sustainable employment.

“Each training cohort will accommodate up to 12 trainees over a 6–12-week period and by January 2025 we expect to have helped over 24 trainees.”

Councillor Charlotte Morris, Bury Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and the Economy said: “This new initiative in Radcliffe is an excellent example of our commitment to delivering benefits to our communities through our procurement activity.

“Delivered by Vinci Building, this targeted skills programme has come about because of the council’s tendering process for the construction of Radcliffe Hub.

“As well as supporting many young people to access a career in construction, this programme will help reduce the current shortage of skilled construction workers.”
