The Bury Directory – your easy guide to local services

Bury Council is making it easier than ever for residents to find out what they need to know about local services.

Improvements have been made to the Bury Directory, the borough’s online one-stop-shop point for advice, support and activities.

The directory provides a comprehensive range of information about services, community groups, charity groups and private providers.

Since its launch in April 2015, the directory has gone from strength to strength and now attracts more than 9,000 visitors a month.

The Bury Directory development officer Katie Wood, who manages the directory, said: “Obtaining information about local services has never been easier.Aside from many technical improvements, we’re adding a wealth of information all the time including advice pages from NHS Choices, which help people to manage their health and wellbeing.

“A new, dedicated Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) website has also been developed that provides a fascinating insight into the health of residents in all areas of Bury. We’re also developing a new conversational tool - a ‘Quality of Life Wheel’ - that will start in the autumn to help people assess where they might need a bit of extra help to look after their health and wellbeing and where to find that support.”

She added: “The directory has evolved from a simple list into a site of valuable information for not only residents but staff, community and voluntary groups and health professionals.

“Community groups can promote their group, services or activities free of charge 365 days a year. They can upload documents, photos and videos about their group, and we can help them to create friendly URLs to easily share their page.”

Future upgrades to the directory will include a library of ‘How to’ videos, improvement to the ‘What’s on’ section, a search widget and an better feedback function.
