Radcliffe Rocks to the sights and sounds of the annual Dance-off!

Thousands flocked to Radcliffe on Saturday 8 June to watch the annual Radcliffe dance-off in the town centre.

Visitors enjoyed a non-stop afternoon of entertainment at Radcliffe Piazza as youngsters from far and wide competed for the prizes. Body locking/popping, break dance and contemporary styles stole the show, with performers from Footsteps Dance School, Jelly Dance, Freak Dance, and SDZ Academy to name a few.

Contestants were judged by Katy Carmichael from Learn Belly dance and Liam Pentland, a private dance tutor and the winners were:

·  Winner Singles Heat: Zarina Fallon 8 years old (ballet performance dancing to Pocahontas 'Colours of the Wind')

- Zarina is from Footsteps Dance School

·  Winner Groups Heat: SDZ Academy snrs 'Egyptian Lovers' (street performance)

·  Runner-up Singles Heat: Shane Sargent 23 years old (popping/robotics performance)

- Shane is from SDZ Academy Dance School

·  Runner-up Groups Heat: SDZ Academy jnrs 'Voodoo Dollz' (street performance)

Another success for SDZ Academy who dominated the finals as winners and runners-up of the groups category and runner up of the singles category. But the star of the show was winner in the singles category, 8 year old, Zarina Fallon of Footsteps Dance School whose ballet performance to Disney's Pocahontas 'Colours of the wind' had the judges in tears.

Councillor Jane Lewis, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism and Culture, commented:  "The dance-off has been a huge success for Radcliffe. The talent of Bury's youngsters is outstanding and every year they bring it on and it is a pleasure to be part of something that has grown from strength to strength.”

“All the young people who take part show great dedication and determination to give their best in their performances.”

“It was a great day for Radcliffe Artisan Market too, whose new management have not disappointed with the level of quality local produce. We look forward to more of these events to bring the town alive and promote more local shopping experiences."
