Radcliffe gym owner has sound system seized

A Radcliffe gym owner has had all his noise-making equipment seized after continuing to cause a nuisance to residents despite being served with a noise abatement notice.

The owner continued to play music for classes at a volume that caused residents stress and anxiety and unable to rest peacefully in their own homes.

The noise was witnessed by Bury Council environmental health officers and noise recordings showed that the disturbance was frequent and occurred early in the mornings and evenings, seven days a week.

Officers obtained a warrant to enter the business and seized three speakers and an amplifier. Any further breaches will result in further confiscation of noise-making equipment.

The equipment will be retained by the council pending a prosecution for the breaches of the noise abatement notice.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “People have a right to live in peace, and we will continue to take action against those who ignore our warnings and cause disruption to their neighbours.”
