Our Place, your say – health funding boost for Radcliffe

Radcliffe residents’ health and wellbeing have received a further boost thanks to a government grant of £17,000.

The money will go to the Our Place initiative, which aims to give local people opportunities to shape local health and social care provision.

Radcliffe became an Our Place area in April 2014, attracting initial funding of £3,000 to develop the project. Feedback from a community event held in May led to project proposals which have now brought in the additional £17,000. The community will have its say in how this funding will be allocated.

Colin Jones, chair of Radcliffe Township Forum, said: “Our forum has supported this project from the beginning. Improving health and wellbeing remains a key priority for us. We are delighted that Our Place will allow us to develop and test new ways of working to give communities a stronger voice in shaping health and social care provision.”

Dr Kiran Patel, chair and clinical lead for NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), added: “The CCG is delighted that Radcliffe has received this further funding. We will be monitoring progress closely and, if successful, this way of working could be taken to other areas.”

Dr Rob Queenborough from Bury GP Federation said: “Residents who attended the community event in Radcliffe told us that we needed to work differently with them if we are to make a difference to improve health and wellbeing. We are listening to them. The Our Place approach will help us to do this.”

Radcliffe residents who wish to get involved should call township co-ordinator Christine Maksymowski on 0161 253 7941 or email C.Maksymowski@bury.gov.uk
