Press release -
One week to go – are you registered to vote?
There is only one week left to make sure you are on the electoral role if you want to have a say in the upcoming council elections.
The deadline to register to vote is Monday 18 April. The local elections are held on Thursday 5 May.
Mike Owen, electoral registration officer for Bury, said: “Time is fast running out to make sure you can take part in these elections in Bury. Our message is simple; if you’re not registered by 18 April, you can’t vote. I’d encourage everyone in Bury to act now if they are not already registered to vote and apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote”
Ben Brook, head of the Electoral Commission, English Regions, said: “Our research shows that the biggest reason people give for not being registered is moving house, with nearly half of people in England giving this as an explanation. If you’re not registered, you won’t be able to have your say on issues that directly affect your day-to-day life in Bury.”
Anyone who would like a postal vote, but has not already registered for one, has until 19 April to do so. Call 0161 253 5252 or email electionservices@bury.gov.uk
