New funding for community groups and to support resilience

Bury Council recognises that the voluntary and community sector is integral to the fabric of Bury and has never been more important as the borough continues to live with Covid.

The sector has a vital role to play in improving people’s lives, tackling inequality and increasing opportunities, as outlined in the Bury 2030 strategy.

As such, new financial support is now available to support voluntary and community groups in the borough through the council in conjunction with the Community Safety Partnership resource via the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

A sum of £33,000 is available for voluntary and community organisations who have critically low level of reserves due to loss of income caused by the coronavirus restrictions. Organisations can apply for up to £1,000 and allocations will be made weekly, subject to funding availability. Priority will be given to those who can demonstrate how Covid has affected their income and how support is needed to enable them to continue operating in the medium term.

Councillor David Jones, cabinet member for communities and emergency planning, said: “Voluntary and community groups play a vital role across the borough, supporting some of the most vulnerable people in our society. This funding is to support the resilience of organisations in this sector to ensure that they can continue to offer support to those who most need it.”
