Press release -

New club’s positive role model for young people

A new Thursday night club has been set up for young people aged between 11 and 16.

The club is being run by Early Break, a young persons’ drug and alcohol service, and Bury Council’s youth service, initially until the end of March this year.

It will take place from 6pm until 8.30pm in Touch of Class, a new cafe on the green at Clarence Park and is free of charge. Young people can take part in a range of activities based on their interests, including arts and crafts and computer games.

The project is one of two Greater Manchester pilots being funded by the Home Office to help stop young people becoming involved in risky behaviour and getting caught up in organised crime and child sexual exploitation.

Ray Jones, operational manager at Early Break, said: “We want young people in the area to come down to this great facility on Thursday, tell us what they like to do and really make these sessions a success.”

Councillor Jane Lewis, cabinet member for communities and culture, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer these exciting sessions to young people and give those taking part a really fun and positive way to spend their time.”
