Man v Sausage – are you up for it?

The Man v Sausage competition held on Saturday 15 December was won by Nikos Whittaker a last minute stand in who filled a space for a competitor who couldn’t attend at short notice.

Long-standing trader George Katsouris hosted the tournament at his Katsouris Delicatessen in Bury Market Hall. Five competitors, chosen at random, were served a 2ft bratwurst on a bun. The winner was the first to finish the lot.

The five competitors were; brothers Nikos and Michael Whittaker, John Torrance, Danny Higgins and Martin Brimelow (a black pudding eating champion)

Nikos Whittaker the winner, and who works at Katsouris, finished the feat in 25 minutes and 30 seconds, beating a time in a similar competition held elsewhere. Nikos received a prize of a £50 hamper from Andrew’s Delicatessen, supplier of continental sausages to Katsouris, and his name will appear as the first entry on the Man v Sausage plaque to be displayed in Katsouris deli.

In addition, George donated £150 to the Mayor of Bury’s Charity Appeal.
