Press release -

Live streamed church service tonight to commemorate Prince Philip

Bury Parish Church is to hold a service of commemoration at 6pm tonight (Friday 16 April) to remember the life of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

Under the current Covid-19 restrictions, there are limited numbers of people who can be in the church at any one time. We are therefore encouraging people to view the service online via the church's Facebook page where it will be live streamed: https://m.facebook.com/buryparishchurch

Local arrangements to mark His Royal Highness’s passing can be found on a dedicated page of our website: https://www.bury.gov.uk/

Flags are currently being flown at half-mast on civic buildings across the borough and will remain at half-mast until the morning after the funeral.

In accordance with public health advice, there will be no physical books of condolence. Members of the public are invited to contribute to the national online book of condolence found on the Royal.uk web site.

During this time the Royal Family ask that members of the public consider making a donation to charity instead of leaving floral tributes in memory of The Duke of Edinburgh. A list of His Royal Highness's patronages, and how you can donate, can be found on the website Royal.uk.

The public are asked to continue to follow the current Government guidance and not to gather in crowds.

The Duke of Edinburgh's funeral will take place tomorrow (Saturday 17 April) in St George's Chapel, Windsor. The funeral service will begin with a National Minute's Silence at 3pm, which will be observed in all council buildings.

It is recognised that many people who wish to pay their respects on the day of the funeral are likely to do so by watching the live broadcast at home. For this reason, and in light of current government advice on social distancing, there will be no public service for the National Silence at that time.
