Latest £10 million investment into Bury’s highways

Roads across Bury are to be resurfaced thanks to additional investment of £10 million by Bury Council.

This is the third stage of the council’s £30 million Highways Investment Strategy, and will be used to repair major and minor routes alike.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “We estimate that we need around £5 million per year to maintain our roads. But the funding we receive from the Department for Transport (DfT) only allows us to prioritise £1.2 million per year for resurfacing schemes.

“However, the additional £30 million we have and continue to invest has allowed us to halt deterioration on our classified highways.”

Work to strategic roads over the next three years will include:

  • Wash Lane - Bond Street to Moorgate
  • Holcombe Road - Quakersfield to Brandlesholme Road
  • Whittaker Lane - Rectory Lane to Bury Old Road Prestwich
  • Water Street - Blackburn Street to Ainsworth Road
  • Turton Road - Chapel Street to Woodstock Drive
  • Ringley Road - Stand Lane to Higher Lane
  • Helmshore Road - No. 95 Helmshore Road to Boundary

In addition, no fewer than 88 local roads across the borough are to be improved. For the full list, go to https://councildecisions.bury.gov.uk/documents/s34605/Highways%20Capital%20Programme%20Appendix%202.pdf
