Investing in Streets for All at Ramsbottom Town Centre

Bury Council is launching a public consultation on plans to enhance travel options in Ramsbottom town centre, aiming to make the town a more enjoyable place to live, work, visit, and conduct business.

Ahead of the consultation, local businesses were given the opportunity to be briefed on the proposals by scheme consultants, AECOM, and ask any questions they may have.

The proposals aim to:

• enable town centre traffic to flow more smoothly and safely;
• make streets and crossings easier and safer to navigate for people walking, wheeling or cycling around the town;
• create high-quality public spaces and a healthier environment.

The consultation starts today (12 November) and ends at midnight on Friday 6 December 2024.

Feedback can be provided online via the virtual consultation room or at a drop-in event.

Councillor Alan Quinn, Cabinet Member for the Environment, Climate Change and Operations, said: “This is a consultation on proposals, nothing is set in stone at this stage. We want to hear from local businesses, residents and visitors what impact they think these plans will have on travel around the town, as well as any issues or opportunities it’s important for us to consider.

“Please do take this opportunity to get involved either by attending a drop-in event or providing feedback via the virtual consultation room.”

The Ramsbottom Town Centre Streets for All proposals have been developed taking into consideration feedback from an earlier consultation about the Ramsbottom Town Centre Plan. They include:

• Junction improvements
• New footpaths
• Upgraded crossings
• Introduction of a one-way system and a 20mph speed limit

• Thursday 21 November, 3pm to 7pm – Ramsbottom Library, Carr Street BL0 9AE

This scheme is one of several local schemes to be funded by UK Government via the Streets for All element of Greater Manchester’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement. It is part of the investment in the Bee Network to transform the way we travel across Greater Manchester, contributing towards 50% of trips (1 million journeys) to be made by public transport, walking, wheeling or cycling by 2040.
