Press release -

Help shape local healthcare services on 11th April

Local people are being invited to have their say about how health and care services can be transformed to meet Bury’s health challenges at an event on Friday 11th April.

Organised jointly by NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Bury Council, the event aims to involve local people in discussions around priorities for health improvement and how services need to look in future years to meet these health challenges and in turn improve outcomes for patients.

A number of priorities and transformational themes have been identified for Bury; this includes the need to focus more on the prevention of ill health, and improving health outcomes, quality of life and life expectancy for patients with conditions such as heart disease, cancer, mental health and learning disabilities.

At the event, there will be an opportunity for patients to talk about their experiences, what works well, where things could work better, any gaps and ideas for improvements. Feedback received will be used to steer the CCG’s and Bury Council’s joint vision for health and health services for the years to come.

Details of the event are as follows:

Date: Friday 11th April 2014

Time: 2.30 – 4.30pm, catering and refreshments will be available from 2pm

Venue: Elizabethan Suite, Bury Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury

Dr. Kiran Patel, Chair and Clinical Lead for NHS Bury CCG said: “Involving and engaging with our local communities to make sure we plan and provide healthcare services that meet their needs is very important to us.  We know we have a number of health challenges in Bury and we want to talk to local people about their experiences of using local services so we can make improvements and in turn improve their experience.  We want to talk frankly about what works well, what doesn’t, any gaps and room for improvement to ensure that services are fit for purpose and fit for the future.”

Lesley Jones, Director of Public Health for Bury added: “People who are in contact with and use healthcare services are best placed to know what works well, what doesn't work so well and how services could be improved.  This event provides an opportunity for people to share their experiences and ideas and help shape services for the future.”

There is no need to book a place, but if you would like to let us know you are planning to come along (or would like more information) you can let us know in a number of ways:
