Green light for more EV chargers across Bury

A network of EV chargers will be installed across the borough to help people power up their electric vehicles.

Bury Council has agreed to join a Greater Manchester scheme which could bring thousands of charging points across the region.

The aim is to install them at locations where residents do not have a driveway or dedicated parking space, which makes it difficult for them to run charging cables into their house.

The number and location of sites in Bury will be developed with the successful contractor to make sure there is a suitable electrical connection. Consultation will take place with local communities when potential sites are identified.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, operations and climate change, said: “We know that transport is responsible for a significant amount of carbon emissions, but we need to make it easier for people to move to greener vehicles. These plans will encourage that shift, and help to improve our environment and air quality.”
