Fruits = Labours at Chesham’s new orchard

Chesham Fold Green Gym is calling on people to come along and look after Bury’s newest fruit orchard in Chesham Local Nature Reserve.

More than 100 new fruit trees were planted in February and Sunday 14 October is the time to see how they are getting on and give them a little TLC ready for the coming winter months.

The fruit orchard is one of many projects carried out by the Green Gym over the last year. It provides food for wildlife, with insects visiting in spring and pollinating the flowers, which in turn will mean lots of apples, pears and plums for people later on in the year.

The orchard was created with funding from Six Town Housing,RedroseForestand the BANG Project.

Meet the Green Gym members at the Lidocar park at 1.30pm on Sunday 14 Oct before walking to the new orchard in Chesham Local Nature Reserve. For more information about the event call Jacqui Goggs on 0161 253 7764 or email j.goggs@bury.gov.uk
