Press release -

Do you need a postal vote for the 5 May elections?

Residents who want a postal vote for the 5 May council elections have until 5pm on Tuesday 19 Aprilto apply for one.

Download a form here: https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter/apply-vote-post.

Once you have provided the required information, you will be sent a ballot paper approximately two weeks before the day of the election. If you apply to vote by post, you will not be able to vote in person at a polling station.

Proxy vote: if you want someone else to vote on your behalf, you need to apply for a proxy vote by 5pm on Tuesday 26 April 2022.

You can download a form here: https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter/apply-vote-proxy

Once you have provided the relevant information, your proxy will be able to go to the polling station and vote on your behalf.

Still not registered to vote? Move fast – the deadline is midnight on Thursday 14 April! Go to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Remember – there are some important changes at these elections.

This year, you will have 3 votes. This is because ward boundaries have been redrawn, therefore all 51 of Bury’s council seats are up for election at the same time rather than the usual 17 each year.

Due to the boundary changes, some residents may find that they are now in a different ward, or that they have to vote at a different polling station. Please check your poll card so you know where to vote.

Polling stations on election day will be open from 7am to 10pm. The votes will be counted the following day (Friday 6 May) and announced on the council’s website and social media.
