Deadline approaches to reward a community hero

Bury’s unsung heroes are to be honoured with Made in Bury awards – but time is running out to get them nominated.

This new community awards scheme aims to thank individuals and groups who have made an outstanding contribution to the borough. Winners will be presented with certificates at the annual meeting of Bury Council on Tuesday 14 May.

However, nominations must be received by Monday 6 May – so why not act now?

There are three categories:

* Outstanding Contribution to a Township (single award)

* Young Person and/or Young Person’s Group – outstanding community contribution (25 or under)

* Volunteer of the Year Award

All nominees must live, work, study or volunteer within the borough of Bury.

The winners will be decided by a judging panel chaired by Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for community development.

For more details, and a nomination form, go to the Made in Bury web pages at www.bury.gov.uk/madeinbury-communityawards or call Cindy Lowthian, communities manager, on 0161 253 5121.
