Bury Council is holding an online recruitment event on Tuesday 3 December to attract people to become social workers.

The authority is looking for Qualified Social Workers to come and join the council as part of its drive for every child in the borough to have the best start in life to achieve their aspirations.

A national recruitment campaign encouraging people to ‘Make a Difference’ is taking place during November. It aims to inspire individuals to explore career opportunities that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of local residents.

Bury Council is supporting the campaign and is putting out the call for social workers to come and improve and change the lives of our looked after children.

As part of the campaign the holding the online recruitment event highlighting how the authority is working to improve the lives of children in Bury and the offer to social workers.

The council has introduced a number of innovative services and is looking to recruit people who will influence and change the services being developed. These include:

• It is one of the first authorities in the North West to pioneer the Hertfordshire Family Safeguarding Model of working with families. The model brings together a wide range of professionals who support parents to become better equipped to meet the demands of parenting
• It also begun operating the Mockingbird Programme of foster care which brings together groups of foster carers to support each other and receive support from the authority. Foster carers become part of a large family community of 6-10 fostering families, led by a home carer and supported by an experienced worker. They help each other and provide support as a community with guidance alongside social activities, planned and emergency care to promote family stability, sleepovers, and training.
• It has launched its new Care Leavers Hub providing services including education and life skills, health and emotional wellbeing support and a space for groups such as the Care Leavers Forum.
• Established a new Keeping Families Together’ team which focuses on providing short term intensive support to children, young people and families who are identified as experiencing multiple and complex issues.

“Our staff describe us as one big family working to improve the lives our children and young people across the borough, and that family approach is what’s different about Bury.

“There are challenges and we, with our partners, are working hard to overcome and improve but there is more to do. That’s why we need people to join us and be part of that family of wrap-around support.

“Our workforce is key to our services and an important voice in Bury and a voice that I as cabinet member listen to. Investing in the training and development of our staff - from Teaching Tuesdays to continued professional development - is key and, as part of our team, you’ll enjoy a supportive and rewarding environment where your professional growth is nurtured and celebrated.”
