Bury Market wins national award from coach visitors

The famous Bury Market has won another national award – this time from the many coach operators who visit the town’s renowned attraction.

The Confederation of Passenger Transport (CPT) has presented the market’s management team with its highest accreditation, as the number of visiting coaches continues to rise following the Covid lockdowns.

Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and the economy, said: “We’re very proud of Bury Market, and delighted that shoppers continue to come from all over the country to visit it - literally by the coachload!

“We have more than 300 traders offering a huge range of goods and services at affordable prices, which is especially important given the rising cost of living, plus that unique market atmosphere and a warm welcome.

“The good news is that the market is set to get even better, under our multi-million pound plans to regenerate the town centre which include a muti-purpose community hall on the market.”

Leanne Clowting, membership director for the CPT, said: “The wide range of stalls and eateries Bury market offers are the reasons people flock here in large numbers each year.

“The market’s kind welcome also extends to our members in the coach industry whose drivers are given meal vouchers and free parking for transporting tourists safely and in comfort in their spacious single-decker vehicles.

“Coaches play a vital role in tourism, contributing over £14bn to the UK economy every year. We hope other tourism attractions follow the great example set by Bury Market.”
