Bury Council elections – candidates declared
The candidates have been declared for the Bury Council elections which will take place on Thursday 6 May.
One-third of the council’s 51 seats will be decided at this poll, one from each of the 17 wards in the borough. Voters in Moorside and North Manor wards will be invited to vote for two candidates, due to vacancies created by recent resignations of councillors.
The full list of candidates is on the council’s website here: https://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=16138
Residents have until 19 April to make sure they are on the electoral register and therefore entitled to vote. Anyone who wishes to register should go to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
If you want a postal vote but haven’t yet registered for one, the deadline is 20 April: call the council’s elections office on 0161 253 5252 or email electionservices@bury.gov.uk
On 6 May, the election for the Mayor of Greater Manchester will also take place. The candidates are listed here: https://gmelects.org.uk/media/1057/statement-of-persons-nominated.pdf
Arrangements are being put in place to ensure that polling stations will be Covid-safe for residents who wish to vote in person. Voters are asked to wear a face mask and sanitise their hands on entry to the station. They are also invited to bring their own pen/pencil and urged not to congregate before and after voting.
