Build A Business with Bury Libraries

Press release -

Build A Business with Bury Libraries

Bury is taking part in a new project run by libraries across Greater Manchester aiming to help budding entrepreneurs develop their business ideas.

Three Build a Business workshops that were held at Bury Library last year were well attended, and a further three sessions are coming up in March.

The programme will offer advice, tailored support and guidance to local business owners and their teams through a programme of workshops delivered at libraries. The project will also help entrepreneurs to plan, develop and grow their business ideas, while also providing the opportunity to network with like-minded people in their area.

In addition, one-to-one support will be provided by local small business experts known as ‘SME Champions’.

Participants will also have access to the library’s Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC), where users can access industry-standard business information resources, including powerful market research databases. Businesses that take part will also benefit from allocated workspaces that have Wi-fi, PCs, printing and 3D printing access.

Sarah, a local make-up specialist, attended the last Bury courses and said: “I came to the Build a Business workshops quite overwhelmed and not really knowing what to do but I now have direction and a plan.”

The upcoming Bury Library workshops:

  • Power Up Your Business – Tuesday 15 March (9.30am to 4.30pm)
  • Know Your Market, Get Competitive – Thursday 17 March (10am to 1pm)
  • Intellectual Property: Protect Your Assets – Thursday 24 March (10am to 1pm)

Councillor Richard Gold, cabinet member for communities, said: “I am really happy that Bury Council is able to be involved in such an innovative scheme that will benefit many business owners across Bury.

“The program offers a wide range of support for smaller businesses, from one-to-one sessions to resources from the BIPC, which will prove helpful for entrepreneurs wanting to expand their reach and scale up their businesses.”

‘Build a Business in GM Libraries’ is led by Manchester City Council and part funded by the European Union with £1.3 million from ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) funding.
