Bin collections over the festive season

Residents are being sent details of their bin collection dates over the Christmas and New Year period and beyond.

Leaflets about the festive changes, along with 2025 collection calendars and a roll of compostable food caddy liners, are now being delivered over the next 4-5 weeks, to all households in the borough.

Remember – you can recycle even more this Christmas, as the blue bins now take plastic pots, tubs and trays as well as plastic bottles.

Importantly, collections due on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are re-scheduled to one day earlier. Collections due after Christmas Day are planned for one day later than usual, except for collections due on Tuesday 31 January when there is no change.

Councillor Alan Quinn, cabinet member for the environment, climate change and operations, said: “The festive season always brings more waste – from Christmas cards to wrapping paper and boxes, not to mention all the leftover food, drinks bottles, chocolate tubs and food cartons.

“Please do your bit to help us recycle as much as possible. Remember – you can now put extra plastic items in your blue bin, as we now collect plastic pots, tubs and trays as well as plastic bottles.

“Help us by putting out your bins on the right day, and put the right waste in the right bin. Any extra waste can taken to your nearest household waste and recycling centres, which are open every day except 25 December and 1 January.”
