Be the Light in the Darkness

Press release -

Be the Light in the Darkness

Watch online tomorrow (Thursday 28 Jan) when Bury Council and its partners hold their 19th Holocaust Memorial Event and their first to take place ‘virtually’.

The event follows this year’s theme of “Be the Light in the Darkness” and tackles stories based around darkness drawing in, light during the darkness, darkness today and how to be the light in the darkness today.

Those who attend the event can expect hear real stories, read by high school students, of those that have been affected by the ongoing genocide in Myanmar, the devastating effects of the Nazi racial policies and how this ultimately led to six million Jewish people losing their lives during World War 2; and also an account of those that stood up to the Nazis in the form of the women of Rosenstrasse.

As well as hearing these powerful stories, there will also be performances from Bury Music Service, speeches from community and faith leaders, singing and artwork created around the theme by a select group of schools. Finally, and most significantly, a survivor of the Holocaust, Ike Alterman, will read an extract of his experiences.

To attend the virtual event, go to https://buryholocaustmemorialevent.vidius.co.uk/at 7pm on tomorrow (Thurs 28 Jan).
