Formex Trend Guide SS25: Craftsmanship, Elegance, and Playfulness in Focus

From January 17–19, 2025, Stockholmsmässan will once again transform into the Nordic region's most important meeting place for interior design: Formex. A sneak peek into the trends of spring is already available, drawn from the Formex Trend Guide – a biannual source of inspiration created in collaboration with trend expert Jan Rundgren. This season’s themes, Authenticity, Sophisticated, and Arise, highlight genuine craftsmanship, sophisticated elegance, and vibrant expressions. These trends will be showcased through creative exhibitions, daily on-stage presentations, and an exclusive printed guide available at the fair.

Spring 2025 invites us to make our homes an energizing retreat – a happy place where we can momentarily surround ourselves with curated interiors and harmonious colors while maintaining a connection to the world outside. The Formex Trend Guide helps visitors navigate the major trends of the season, developed by Formex in collaboration with trend expert Jan Rundgren.

"The guide aims to inspire and support visitors in finding what suits their stores and customers. Deciding what to place on store shelves is especially important during these challenging economic times. But I believe tough times foster immense creativity," says Jan Rundgren.

Three Themes Shaping Spring Trends

Authenticity – The Genuine and Sustainable
Authenticity emphasizes genuine craftsmanship and natural materials. The theme celebrates slow processes, handmade products, and sustainable choices. Natural color palettes, such as wood and terracotta, set the tone, blurring the line between art and craft.

"Craftsmanship counters mass production and the rush of consumerism. We see both the industry and the business world placing increasing importance on sustainable production," says Rundgren.

Sophisticated – Personal Elegance with Retro Elements
Sophisticated combines the sleek simplicity of the 1990s with warmth and personal touches. Shades of grey, blue, and black are paired with second-hand finds and inherited items to create a unique, sustainable aesthetic.

"It’s about blending the new with the old to create something personal. The second-hand market is growing, allowing people to express themselves in a more sustainable and creative way," Rundgren explains.

Arise – Color and Playfulness
Arise brings an explosion of color and form into the home. Cheerful hues and patterns, along with playful details, define this theme. Arise also revisits the experimental design of the 1980s, with mirrored surfaces on furniture and walls, as well as colorful tiles.

"We’re decorating with a style that conveys hope and energy, reminding us that the light always returns," Rundgren concludes.

The trends will take center stage in a dedicated exhibition and be presented daily on stage by Jan Rundgren. The printed Formex Trend Guide will also be available at the fair.

Formex will take place from January 17–19 at Stockholmsmässan, serving as the premier meeting place for Nordic interior design. Learn more at www.formex.se.
