Press release -

Busy Award Week for Shaun Tan

Shaun Tan, the recipient of the 2011 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, will come to Sweden to participate in the award week 21-31 of May. The Australian illustrator and author will visit Vimmerby, München in Germany and Lillehammer in Norway. In Stockholm, Shaun Tan will hold lectures at the House of Culture and the Parliament Library. The grand finale is the award ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall on May 31.

– We are delighted Shaun Tan will come and we are very satisfied with this year’s award week program, says director Erik Titusson. Thanks to our collaborations with various organizations, we will reach a broad audience, the general public, children and specialists.

Shaun Tan is a particularly engaged public speaker. The entirely wordless and award-winning book The Arrival has aroused considerable international attention. Recently Shaun Tan received an Academy award Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, for The Lost Thing.

– It has been a challenge to organize the award week this year, admits Erik Titusson. We are pleased that a wider audience in the Nordic region now have the opportunity to meet Shaun Tan and get to know his work better.
