Hver gang vi vasker klær løsner tusenvis av mikrofibre fra plagget. Ett enkelt par med jeans slipper fra seg rundt 56 000 mikrofibre – per vask. En ny studie viser at de små samfunnene i Arktis er en stor kilde til denne typen fremmede partikler i det sårbare miljøet.

Havbruksnæringen bruker store mengder plast, både i form av anleggskomponenter, og til utføring av driftsoperasjoner. Nasjonale prosjekter har vist at næringen har generelt god kontroll på plasten, og at det finnes alternativer for avhending av den, men at det kan være geografiske variasjoner. Analyser av innsamlet avfall viser at en del av den marine plastforsøplingen kan knyttes til havbruk.
