JYSK celebrates topping-out ceremony at head office

The new extension makes room for 100 additional workplaces at JYSK’s head office in Brabrand, Denmark

There was a festive atmosphere and a good mood when JYSK on Friday celebrated the topping-out ceremony of the head office extension at Sødalsparken in Brabrand, Denmark. The ceremony was celebrated with the traditional Cocio chocolate milk and sausages with bread.

Jan Bøgh, CEO & President of JYSK Nordic, welcomed workers, advisors and the head office's almost 300 employees from an improvised platform made of four pallets. The owner and founder of JYSK, Lars Larsen, was also present for the ceremony.

"Even though it is just an extension, and it is the third time in this place, a ceremony is still relevant. Some say that the third time is the charm, but for us in JYSK every extension has been charming and enjoyable because that means we are still growing. Fortunately, there is also room for a fourth wing when that time arrives," said Jan Bøgh.

When the extension is completed by the end of 2017, there will be room for 100 additional workplaces in the new offices. With the expansion, employees will also have access to additional meeting rooms and a new, modern conference room for larger events.

In addition to JYSK's employees at the head office, the workers who tend to the daily business on the construction site and representatives from the ak83 architects and Stender Entreprise also participated.

Facts about the headquarters

  • In 2010, the head office was complemented with a new wing of 3,000 m2.
  • In 2017, JYSK will expand with additional 3,700 m2 to accommodate 100 additional workplaces.
  • Nearly 300 employees work at JYSK's head office in Brabrand, Denmark.

Facts about the architecture

  • The original shape has helped to create the geometry of the latest extensions, designed by ak83 architects.
  • The buildings are characterised by the floating glassways and interiors that connect the beautiful marble plates with the surrounding environments.
  • To give the aesthetic building a necessary counterplay, the lower floors are constructed of brick-concrete, which remain in their raw form.
