The Veranda’s flagship event: The classic smörgåsbord

Earlier this spring, our smörgåsbord was tested by restaurant critics from the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. Calling it our ‘flagship event’, they liked our mix of Swedish classics and more international cuisine. Smörgåsbord delicacies include the Grand Hôtel’s very own marinated herring with star anise and cardamom, house fish terrine, smoked whitefish with mustard dressing, Styckboden’s meatballs, our very own 1874 snaps, the kitchen’s Jansson’s temptation.

The smörgåsbord is served daily in the stylish Veranda restaurant with fabulous views of the waterfront and Royal Palace.

“The Veranda’s smörgåsbord is greatly appreciated and popular with our guests. Everything is homemade and seasonal, attractively presented in our stylish dining room,” says Karl Persson, restaurant manager at the Veranda restaurant.

Rich in history and tradition, Grand Hôtel Stockholm dates back more than 140 years and occupies a prime position on the city’s waterfront next to the National Museum and opposite the Royal Palace and Old Town. Executive Chef of The Grand Hotel, Stockholm, Mr Andreas Askling has been invited to participate in the Royal Sweden Gourmet Festival at the Hotel Okura in Tokyo, taking place on March 5 to March 11 2104. Mr Askling will be preparing the traditional Scandinavian cuisine and the authentic smorgasbord, famous at the Grand Hôtel Veranda Restaurant.

From Wednesday, September 17 to Sunday, October 9, we will be serving a shellfish buffet at the Grand Hôtel, treating our guests to the finest the sea has to offer, along with accompaniments that enhance both taste and enjoyment.

According to tradition, the first Thursday of August is the official crayfish premiere in Sweden. At the Grand Hôtel, we naturally honour this custom and serve a crayfish supper for a two week period starting on the first Thursday of August. This year the crayfish premiere will take place on August 2.

Every November, the Grand Hôtel and the Veranda restaurant welcome all those who love black soup, roast goose and apple charlotte. As tradition goes, we move Skåne and the classic St. Martin’s Day feast, known as Mårtengås, to the capital for a short but sublime period.
