Swimming in the city

Here comes the sun! According to meteorologists we are in for a record breaking summer. What can possibly be better than a refreshing swim between the various sights of the city.

Hornsbergs Strand
This bubbly oasis in central Stockholm is perfect for sunbathing and swimming. Why not even try out a Stand up paddle board and slide alongside the city’s shoreline?

Fredshällsbadet
This is a classic, to be found alongside Kungsholms Strandstig. There are mainly rocks, but there are ladders to help you climb down and up from the water. A café close to the water is open during the summer season.

Hellasgården
A half an hour bus trip brings you to this outdoor favourite amongst Stockholmers. Explore the forests that surround Lake Källtorp and finish up with a dip. There are also saunas, pontons, restaurants and bathing jetties.

Swimming Pools for swimmers
If you rather prefer to swim your laps in a pool than in Lake Mälaren, there are several alternatives in the city. Eriksdalsbadet is a complete facility established in 1929 with outdoor and indoor facilities, Kampementsbadet at Gärdet has lots of space for sunbathing on the surrounding grass field, and you can’t find a more central spot for swimming than at Vanadisbadet at Norrmalm.

Lappis Beach
Looking to take a refreshing dip in the sea then this is ideal and just a couple of metro stations away. Make sure to fill a picnic basket as there are no restaurants or cafés nearby. This is a perfect place to bring the children to as the beach is shallow.

Smedsuddsbadet
Perfect place to take the bike and go for a swim. A popular spot, with both grass, sand and bathing jetties. Be sure to get there in time to find a good place.

Trouville at Sandhamn
Up for a day trip? At Sandhamn island in the Stockholm archipelago, you can wander through the beautiful pine forest and reach Trouville beach on the south side of the island. Don’t forget to complete your picnic basket at the Nya Sandhamnsbageriet. We highly recommend Seglarbullen – “the sailing bun”.

Saltsjöbadens Friluftsbad
This is a historical bathhouse with separate departments for ladies, gentlemen and families. There are terraces for sunbathing, saunas, diving towers and a restaurant.
