MUSIC, MAESTRO!

The music has not been silent. And maybe music is more important than ever right now. Since ancient times, music in different forms has brought us together and in music we can be together even though we are advised to keep a distance. Due to the restrictions, several of Stockholm's best music scenes have changed their ways to reach its audience. Here we are talking about how you can place yourself on the first parquet, free of charge, and meet each other through the music.

Konserthuset Stockholm
The concert hall is home to the Royal Philharmonic, a world-class orchestra. Over 200 concerts and events are organized here annually and in December the Nobel Prize is also awarded by H.M. The King on the podium in the Great Hall. From the same podium, at least one concert per week is currently being streamed. The live stream, which is also recorded, can be found on Konserthuset Play. There is also the year of the largest event ever for the Concert Hall, the 250th anniversary of the composer Ludwig van Beethoven, with recordings of all his symphonies.

Also on the program is a musical journey through the centuries, from the 16th century to the late 1900s, with music by, among others, Johann Sebastian Bach, Claude Debussy and Leonard Bernstein. And on Friday, it's time for jazz, when the Ida Sand Trio performs its program from the Grünewaldsalen.

Berwaldhallen
The Berwald Hall is Sweden's Radio Concert Hall, where all concerts are broadcast on both Swedish and international radio channels. They are the home of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Radio Choir. The Baltic Sea Festival is organized here annually; one of Europe's largest and leading classical music festivals. In addition to radio broadcasts, the Berwaldhall's high quality range of music is also available through their Play feature Berwaldhallen Play.

Right now, for example, there is the recording of "Dance Music Symphony", where the Radio Symphonics, led by Hans Ek, performs a symphonic interpretation of electronic dance music. You will hear, among other things, the tones of Avicii and Swedish House Mafia - but guaranteed they are not as you have heard them before. Consolation and reflection are promised in "Music in a Troubled Time" with the Radio Symphonics and Radio Choir led by Helene Stureborg. The whole family can follow Pippi Longstocking as she explores the symphony orchestra in "Pippi Longstocking at the Berwald Hall", with Sweden's Radio Symphony Orchestra and actors from Astrid Lindgren's World. Well-known tunes and works by, among others, Georg Riedel, Jan Johansson, Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann Strauss accompany Pippi's adventures.

The Royal Opera
Sweden's national stage for opera, dance and ballet has also launched a streaming service in the form of Operan Play. Here you can enjoy audience successes such as the classic Valkyrian by Richard Strauss or the concept "Short Stories" which consists of short stories by Swedish composers, based on reality. In addition, a unique opportunity is offered to follow behind the scenes and meet choreographers, dancers from the Royal Ballet, composers and naturopaths in the documentary series "Life at the Opera".

Fasching
Fasching was founded in the 1960s by the Swedish Jazz Musicians Association and is today one of Scandinavia's largest organizers of world-class jazz. Together with some other music styles, they organize about 250 live concerts annually. "Stockholm Jazz Stream" is Faschings streaming service that was launched due to the ongoing pandemic and is found on their Facebook page. Every Wednesday and Saturday you can attend live concerts with, for example, Isabella Lundgren, Simone Moreno and Algotsson Henryson Duo.

Music is not just concerts and live performances it is all around us and fills us with memories. If you find yourself looking back on a recent stay at the Grand Hotel, but are not able to visit us right now, you can easily play the Grand Hotel’s music from our own Spotify list, close your eyes and dream about your next visit.
