A TRUE SIGN OF SUMMER - MIDSUMMER

The time has come to celebrate midsummer and that means that summer has arrived. Alongside Christmas, Midsummer is the most popular Swedish holiday. Midsummer is a great opportunity to celebrate, with traditional Swedish smorgasbord, flowers, dancing, and hopefully a lot of sunshine.

Throughout history, midsummer has served as an opportunity to celebrate the lush transformation of the landscapes, and in the peasant society it served as a seasonal working breakpoint. The midsummer night is said to be a night of magic with an air of the supernatural.

The traditionalists claim that midsummer must be celebrated with these key traditions – the maypole, picking seven different species of flowers to be placed under the pillow, in order to find true love and dancing in a ring impersonating frogs!

We think that good food is the essential ingredient for a successful midsummer celebration, even though some frog dancing is always recommended!

Here at the Grand Hôtel we are already preparing for the traditional Midsummer smörgåsbord. This year our delicious midsummer buffet is available for home delivery. Everything needed is included, from herring and fresh potatoes to summer desserts. When the preparation and cooking is taken care of, you are left with plenty of time for the frog dancing or flower picking.

Finally, we would like to point out another great tradition – the flower wreaths – these gives any outfit that natural summer look. Follow the link to watch a tutorial from our fantastic florist Kristina on how to create the perfect midsummer wreath. We also sell ready made flower wreaths in our lobby on Midsummer. Welcome!
