For 100 years the Sections of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum have been working with an understanding of life under cosmic, earthly and human developmental conditions in order to take on civilizational tasks. At the Campus Fete on 8 September 2024, Goetheanum co-workers will make the work of the School tangible to visitors.
Family life has largely emancipated itself from external precepts. The need for personal development and reliability cannot be met with new directives. With its annual Family Festival, the Goetheanum creates a space for practical questions around the theme of ‘family today’.
Artistic activity makes familiar with creative processes. At the Goetheanum, the art impulse also lives as a stimulus for tasks in agriculture, medicine and education for instance. An Art Intensive Week reveals approaches in architecture, painting and sculpture.
Family life has become very diverse. But circumstances and what children bring with them can challenge the whole family. The Goetheanum therefore asks “How can family be learned?” and supports the diverse forms of family – with a festival for all family members.
Clowns as developing human beings have moved into the Goetheanum. This sum-mer the two clowns Vanilli und Topolino will offer a course for adults in June and activities for the entire family in August.
Diversity illustrates how differently concepts such as ‘Christ’, ‘reincarnation’ and ‘karma’, and ‘Goetheanism’ can be experienced. The Goetheanum Adult Education Program at the Goetheanum provides a space for discussing such topics in anthroposophic trainings.
‘28 Days of Insights, Art and Encounter’, the online study programme offered by the Goetheanum, creates a space for finding inner strength and for keeping one‘s thinking flexible by sharing contents and artistic activities with others.
With her book ‘A Life With Colour’ Caroline Chanter presents the first comprehen-sive biography of the painter Gerard Wagner (1906–1999). Wagner understood the colours as an alphabet and looked for objective principles in the encounter with the being of colour.
Expanding one‘s horizon by travelling and seeing other cultures is more difficult during a pandemic. But international places of study also provide the opportunity to meet people from different cultures, experience their ways of life and to get to know oneself and one‘s own societal dispositions better.
Life and work have become more challenging with the pandemic and the interventions put in place to overcome it. Getting away from simply reacting seems like a good idea: taking some time out and escaping to a recreational island, through meditation for instance.
Being locked down, teaching children at home and working from home can be very stressful. In February the Goetheanum offers an online course with practical inspiration for becoming creative and feeling more in charge. The programme focuses on dialogue and self-activity.
The Limbua Macadamia Group started off as a pioneer in establishing small-scale farming cooperatives. In the video series ‘Living Farms’, Lin Bautze (project leader) and Philipp Wilson (camera) from the Goetheanum‘s Section for Agriculture explain the group‘s biodynamic approach.
The pandemic has uncovered so many systemic problems on a global scale that almost everyone sees the need for a drastic paradigm shift. The World Social Initiative Forum will host monthly web-seminars suggesting individual ways of dealing with social issues, starting with ‘What now? Social needs of today’ on 31 July.
The study courses at the Goetheanum have been adapted to the current conditions. The first term of the academic year 2020/2021 ‘Metamorphosis’ is about finding ways of actively dealing with uncertainty – through ‘self-transformation’ based on building relationships and relating to reality.
The restrictions to learning caused by the Coronavirus make us aware of the basic conditions needed for the acquisition of skills. The Goetheanum Adult Education Program connects adult educators so they can share their experiences of teaching anthroposophy.
In addition to entrepreneurial skills, leadership of an enterprise increasingly asks for the ability to respond to external crises at various levels. The Goetheanum Leadership Course provides inspiration for self-leadership and a basis for building up a network of collegial expertise.
The teaching of anthroposophy in professional settings is still informed by its origins in the German-speaking realm. Given the dissemination of anthroposophy around the globe and the changing of societal values, the Goetheanum Adult Education Program asks for forms of conveying anthroposophy that are suited to our time.
The Kunstmuseum Basel has invited the Goetheanum to design two artistic evenings around the theme of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ as part of their ‘Dialogue at Christmas’: On the 4th and 18th of December, the visual arts and literature will come together.
New forms of cooperation enter into dialogue at the World Goetheanum Forum 2019, where examples of cross-company cooperation will be on display. Each participant‘s personal development determines the quality of the work and results.
The Kunstmuseum Basel will present its workshop series ‘Living Archive’ at the Goetheanum on 15th June. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration requested.
The Goetheanum is the headquarters for the School of Spiritual Science and the General Anthroposophical Society. The School of Spiritual Science with its eleven sections is active worldwide in research, development, teaching, and the practical implementation of its research findings and is supported by the Anthroposophical Society.
