260 years of Faber-Castell: Social media campaign celebrates creativity

The long-established company is celebrating its anniversary with fans all over the world – and is launching an interactive, global social media campaign to mark the occasion.

Stein - 1761: Faber-Castell’s birth took place before the founding of the United States of America, before the enthronement of Catherine the Great and before the invention of the steam engine. The writing instrument manufacturer from Stein, near Nuremberg, has truly experienced history – and has written it itself. To this day, the core idea of creativity has been a defining feature of the company and is firmly anchored in its mission statement: As a companion for life, Faber-Castell wants to promote this creativity across all ages and inspire its customers to creative experiences with innovative products.

As an ode to creativity, Faber-Castell is now launching a global social media campaign to mark the company’s 260th anniversary. The campaign will run over a three-month period and will be played out on Facebook and Instagram under the hashtag #FaberCastell260. Faber-Castell currently has over seven million followers on these platforms – a large community of professionals and amateurs, children, young people and adults from all over the world. The declared objective of the interactive campaign is to celebrate and further inspire the creativity of this ever-growing fan base in the company’s anniversary year.

Three creative trend themes – lettering and bullet journalling, painting and watercolour, and children’s creativity – will each dominate the content on the channels for a month. Representing each of the three regions in which Faber-Castell is represented around the world, support is coming from three professionals in the role of international art ambassadors. They will be presenting their work in short interviews, showcasing personal favourite materials and pens, and giving inspirational tutorials: Filipino hand-lettering expert and YouTuber Abbey Sy will be showing you how to create your own party decorations, German urban sketcher Jens Hübner will be sharing application tips for the Faber-Castell artists’ range, and Brazilian illustrator Itamar Dutra will be sharing colourful painting tutorials for kids.

Other interactive activities such as quizzes and games or drawing challenges will be included to inspire the online community to create their own works of art, which will be shared as user-generated content on the Faber-Castell channels. In total, the campaign is expected to reach 45 million people worldwide.

The social media campaign will be launched in March 2021 on the global channels, with the DACH (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) launch taking place in May.
