TRION 740: Compact hybrid combine harvester with 435 hp and a single ROTO PLUS rotor

Three years ago, CLAAS introduced the TRION series as a new benchmark in the medium-sized combine harvester class. Now the range has been expanded with the addition of the new TRION 740, TRION 740 TERRA TRAC and TRION 740 MONTANA in the compact hybrid class which feature a 1,420 mm wide drum and the proven combination of the APS HYBRID threshing system and ROTO PLUS single rotor.

Launched by CLAAS in summer 2021, the TRION is the most comprehensive and diverse product range on the market in the mid-range combine harvester class. From the compact five-straw walker to the high-performance six-straw walker or high horsepower hybrid with ROTO PLUS secondary separation, the nine performance classes in three series with engine outputs from 258 to 435 hp and drum widths of 1,420 and 1,700 mm cater for every conceivable customer requirement – regardless of whether they want a wheeled machine, TERRA TRAC or MONTANA for hilly terrain.

TRION 740, TRION 740 TERRA TRAC and TRION 740 MONTANA: infinite versatility and resilience
Now farmers and contractors can take advantage of three new high-performance alternatives to the TRION 730 and TRION 750 which join the upper ranks of the TRION family – the TRION 740, TRION 740 TERRA TRAC and TRION 740 MONTANA. These machines deliver full engine output with torque reserves for the toughest harvesting conditions with or without a straw chopper, combined with the proven APS HYBRID threshing system with a 570 mm single rotor that is suitable for many different crops. “Customers from regions in Europe that experience variable harvesting conditions have requested more engine power than is currently provided by the TRION 720 and TRION 730 HYBRID machines”, explains Philipp Stiens, Global Product Team Manager Large and Medium Combines. “The combination of the proven APS threshing unit and ROTO PLUS single rotor is ideally suited to regions where harvesting conditions are often unfavourable and highly variable. This is the case in parts of the UK and Ireland, as well as in Scandinavia, Northern Germany, Northern France and the Baltic States.”

But the TRION 740 also performs outstandingly in regions of Southern and South-Eastern Europe. “Although grain and straw yields often tend to be only average in these areas, with significantly wider cutterbars or maize pickers and higher ground speeds, it is not unusual for customers nowadays to push the machines to the limits of their performance,” Stiens adds. “Furthermore, we shouldn’t underestimate the fact the customers throughout Europe still have very high standards when it comes to straw quality, which together with the installed engine output is always a key purchasing criterion in this customer segment. The TRION 740 HYBRID allrounder, positioned above the TRION 720 and TRION 730, is our answer to these demands; for example we can now offer six-straw walker customers another attractive alternative with higher throughputs and at the same time, the lowest specific fuel consumption and better straw quality.”

TRION 740, TRION 740 TERRA TRAC and TRION 740 MONTANA extend the CLAAS combine harvester range in Europe with compact, powerful hybrid machines with the APS HYBRID threshing unit and ROTO PLUS single rotor.

One machine, numerous options, full connectivity
With the TRION 740, purchasers can also choose from an extensive range of equipment options, including TERRA TRAC crawler tracks, MONTANA specification with slope-compensation chassis, CERIO auger cutterbars up to 9.30 m wide as well as VARIO auger cutterbars, CONVIO and CONVIO FLEX Draper cutterbars with a working width of up to 12.30 m, new ROVIO maize pickers with 6 to 12 rows, CEMOS operator assistance systems in various configuration levels, different grain tanks sizes, grain tank unloading augers and straw and chaff spreading systems. The GPS PILOT CEMIS 1200 is available for automatic steering, which, with corresponding activations, also enables task management with yield mapping for precision farming. Furthermore, all TRION 740, TRION 740 TERRA TRAC and TRION 740 MONTANA will be set up in the new CLAAS connect on hand-over to the customer, giving farmers and contractors direct access to all relevant machine data – as well as to documentation and mapping of yield data when yield recording is optionally selected. “All new TRION and LEXION combine harvesters are supplied with free machine connectivity for five years as standard, providing farmers and contractors with new opportunities for machine management and saving them a great deal of valuable time”, explains Philipp Stiens. “The system automatically records all field-specific combine harvester data from individual machines or an entire fleet and combines them in the new CLAAS connect. The data can be viewed at any time on the PC or on mobile devices on this platform and used to analyse various performance indicators or perform a full evaluation, as well as for subsequent invoicing. It is also possible to convert yield data to high-quality yield maps.”

CLAAS connect offers many other practical functions as standard, including access to digital operating instructions, the Lubricant Advisor and the option to order wear and spare parts from the online shop – the stored machine number ensures that parts are matched to the machine specification.

From October 2024, the new CLAAS connect will also open up new possibilities in machine, fleet and operational management for the LEXION, TRION and EVION.

Features of TRION 740 / TRION 740 TERRA TRAC / TRION 740 MONTANA at a glance:

  • High-performance alternative in the mid-range hybrid class for challenging harvesting conditions in damp, long and tough straw: APS HYBRID and ROTO PLUS single rotor now paired with a powerful 435 hp engine.
  • Available either as a wheeled machine, TERRA TRAC or MONTANA
  • External width 3.49 m with 800/70 R38 Triebachs tyres (3.29 m with 680/80 R38) or 735 mm TERRA TRAC .
  • Cummins six-cylinder engine with 8.9 l cubic capacity, 435 hp at 1,900 rpm and DYNAMIC POWER intelligent power management for up to 10 per cent additional fuel saving; approved for operation with hydrotreated vegetable oils (HVO) either in pure form or blended with conventional diesel fuel.
  • APS HYBRID threshing unit with 1,420 mm drum width, 450 mm pre-accelerator, 600 mm threshing drum and MULTICROP design.
