Press release -
Scandinavian Designers III - A beloved design treasure
Boråstapeter had the honour of selecting from Scandinavia’s most beautiful patterns for their Scandinavian Designers wallpaper collection. This third instalment of the collection proudly presents a new addition to the design greats – famous Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto. He joins the company of Stig Lindberg, Arne Jacobsen, Viola Gråsten and Gocken and Lisbeth Jobs.
There is a wonderful treasure trove of patterns to be found in Scandinavia. Wallpaper designs, but also in textiles, paintings, drawings and sketches. Many of them are hidden and perhaps even forgotten, in boxes and cartons where the designer once put them. Boråstapeter had the honour of making a selection of the most beautiful – from some of the greatest designers in modern times – and putting them on the wallpaper.
“In this third Scandinavian Designers collection, Madeleine Sidemo, Senior Designer, at Boråstapeter and I have worked together. We have flipped through archives, looked at older textiles and talked to the designers’ heirs. All to find the right patterns and rejuvenate them for use on wallpaper and it feels wonderfully exciting and rewarding. The patterns are timeless and will bring joy to many future generations. We are also incredibly proud to add Alvar Aalto to this prestigious collection of designers,” says Sissa Sundling, Head of Design, Boråstapeter.
The patterns are chosen for their innovative expressions, which are quintessential of their time yet also timeless. Through the strength and clarity of their style they defined modern Scandinavian design. And of course, patterns are chosen because they will be beautiful on walls and give a unique feeling to your home. While some are already well-known and loved, others are here to be rediscovered.
Scandinavian Designers III is available in stores from mid-January 2021. The wallpapers are made in Boråstapeter’s own factory in the textile city of Borås, where sustainability is in focus. Production is completely without hazardous substances and with the least possible environmental impact. All paints are water-based and paper is sourced from sustainable forestry in Northern Europe.
