Join an online cook-along to help realise a child’s dream
Johannesburg, 15 August 2022: After setting a Guinness World RecordTM in 2021 for the most people cooking online simultaneously, the Reach for a Dream Foundation and Discovery Vitality once again invite South Africans to a cook-along experience to make a difference for children with life-threatening illnesses. Cooking enthusiasts can join virtually by booking their tickets before 22 August 2022.
Cooking for Dreams takes place on 1 September 2022 and will be hosted by South Africa’s celebrity chefs David Higgs, The Lazy Makoti and J’Something. Aspiring chefs, foodies and supporters are invited to participate in cooking a delicious appetiser and main course meal from the comfort of their homes, with the convenience of the ingredients delivered to their front door.
Reach for a Dream was recently voted the most impactful NGO in South Africa and has been working tirelessly to make a difference to the lives of children fighting life-threatening illnesses for more than three decades. Last year, the Cooking for Dreams campaign raised R850 000 and this year, the foundation is striving to double the funding to help more dreamers and continue the journey of hope.
A treat for foodies to get behind a great cause
The starter course will be crafted by The Lazy Makoti and the main course conceptualised by Higgs. J’Something will be the master of ceremonies, offering tips and tricks to participants. Beyond being tasty, the dishes have the nutritional approval of the team at the Discovery Vitality HealthyFood Studio. To add to the wonderful offering of ingredients, participants will also receive a complementary Lindt chocolate, Jacobs coffee, Kings Tea, a bottle of wine and a surprise gift.
Discovery Vitality CEO, Dinesh Govender says, “After collaborating on such a memorable event last year, we are excited to partner again with Reach for a Dream. Being able to support children with life-threatening illnesses, with all involved, is an immense honour. Also, much of the work we do at Vitality to make people healthier and enhance and protect their lives is predicated on powerful partnerships – Cooking for Dreams is an excellent case in point.”
Participation costs R550 and every cook-along chef will receive a cooler bag with all the ingredients to feed a family of four, sponsored by Woolworths, conveniently delivered to their door. Participants can join in virtually to cook along with the chefs, learning new techniques while enjoying an entertaining evening with family or friends.
“Last year, just over 2,600 people participated in Cooking for Dreams. This year, the goal is to reach 3,000 and I believe we can do it”, said Julia Sotirianakos, CEO Reach For A Dream. “Being part of a record setting project is really exciting, and in doing so, each person that participates can help make a positive difference in the life of a child facing a life-threatening illness,” she concluded.
Tickets must be bought by 22 August 2022. For more information about how to join in the fun, visit www.cookingfordreams.co.za.
