New exhibition at World of Volvo. Volvo models - Through the Years
The exhibition Volvo Models – Through the Years presents, for the first time ever, Volvo’s 98-year history gathered in one place. On the large plaza on level 2 of World of Volvo, over 100 detailed scale models showcase Volvo’s development through the decades – from the very first ÖV4 to today’s EX90.
The collection includes iconic models such as the PV 654, PV 36 Carioca, PV 444, the rare P1900, and the beloved 200 series. Buses, trucks, and yellow construction machinery are also represented, along with sportier highlights like rally cars and modern race cars such as the S60 WTCC.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of many Volvo models through the eyes of a true enthusiast. Behind the exhibition is Bert-Jan Nijhuis, a passionate Dutch collector who has spent over 40 years collecting Volvo models. His deep commitment has been key in selecting the models and showcasing Volvo’s milestones – both in terms of design and innovation. The aim has been to display the wide variety of models in a way that appeals to both die-hard fans and curious newcomers alike.
“I grew up in the backseat of an orange Volvo 245 in the 1970s,” says Bert-Jan. “We often went on holiday to Sweden, so both Volvo and ABBA became a natural part of my childhood. Model cars are a fantastic way to enjoy cars – without technical issues, storage problems, or high costs. Most model cars are incredibly detailed and look like little works of art!”
“I hope visitors get a sense of Volvo’s heritage, design, and beauty. A Volvo is always a Volvo – no matter how old it is. The brand is so popular around the world, and I’m thrilled that enthusiasts can now come to Gothenburg to experience the collection.”
The exhibition is free and open to everyone – whether you’re a dedicated Volvo fan, a collector, a parent, or a child. It runs from April 14 to December 31.
