Press release -
Style Collection Partners with whatt.io for Advanced IP and Product Protection
In a first of its kind partnership, one of Sweden’s leading sustainable interior brand, Style Collection, is teaming up with the trailblazing technology platform whatt.io to fortify the protection of their digital assets and original product designs against illegal duplication and counterfeiting.
Pioneering Sustainable Designs
Style Collection is celebrated for its innovative interior product designs ranging from quaint trays to expansive furniture pieces, all crafted from 100% recycled and 3D printed materials. The brand recently unveiled its "Paperplane" range during the prestigious Stockholm Design Week. This line not only champions sustainability but is now also fortified with IP protection courtesy of two state-of-the-art whatt.io technologies.
While the Paperplane range offers physical products constructed from diverse materials, such as recycled wood and post-consumer fishnets, the brand faced the intricate challenge of safeguarding its intellectual property.
Integrated Protection Mechanism
To combat this, every 3D-printed item—whether through FDM or FFF processes—will either display a distinct logo badge and be embedded with a whatt.io NFC tag. These mechanisms ensure each original item is shielded with a unique serial number. Furthermore, through a simple tap with a mobile phone, users can ascertain if a product was manufactured under an authentic license or if it's an unauthorized copy.
"The challenges of 3D printing revolve around shielding the rights of designers and inventors. The need for technologies that not only respect these rights but also authenticate original products through solutions like the Digital Product Passport offered by whatt.io has never been more paramount," commented a spokesperson from Style Collection.
Digitizing Design Rights
Another significant challenge Style Collection tackled was the planned sale of digital production files of their designs, beginning with the large format Paper Plane furniture range. Opting for the more secure 3MF file format over STL, the brand ensures its designs carry crucial metadata attesting to IP rights. Here, whatt.io's pioneering 3MF Vault technology came to the rescue. This tool harnesses the 3MF format's metadata to embed all requisite legal stipulations concerning IP, copyrights, and design patent assertions. Additionally, an integrated tracing feature and checksum function guarantee data integrity, making unauthorized alterations impossible without leaving a trace.
A Holistic Solution
With the inclusion of whatt.io's expertise, Style Collection now possesses a comprehensive Digital Product Passport solution. This not only bolsters circular economy strategies and provides accurate sustainability insights to stakeholders but also furnishes the design brand with unmatched digital and physical product IP safeguards.
