Time for Norway - 35% cheaper in two years 

Over the past two years, it has become 35% cheaper for Brits to holiday in Norway. A very favourable pound to the Norwegian krone makes this the perfect time to go – many have already taken advantage with an increase of British bed nights by 23% compared to 2013.

Norway is hardly known to be on the cheap, and while we still have a way to go on the Southern Europeans it has never been a financially better time to go. With the Norwegian krone having plummeted since the oil crisis kicked in, it is now 35% cheaper for British holidaymakers to visit Norway than in 2013.

British bed nights up 23% from 2013
The Brits are already taking advantage of the strong pound, with a 23% increase of British bed nights from 2013 to 2015. September 2015 inclusive has seen a 16% increase compared to the same time in 2014. Please note these numbers do not include cruise passengers.

Cheapest ski destinations this season – Norway on the list with three destinations
While Oslo, the fjord region and Northern Lights remain the most popular attractions, Brits are opening their eyes to the great ski opportunities. Travel money expert Fairfx recently published a report on the cheapest ski destinations this season, including three Norwegian resort in their top 20. Geilo made it in as number 10, with a weekly cost of £291. Geilo is located in the middle of Norway, easily accessed by train from both Oslo and Bergen, while tour operator Crystal offers direct charters from the UK.

The 35% decrease is based on an exchange rate in 2013 when £1 was 8.55 Norwegian kroner at its lowest, compared to the 2015 rate when £1 was 13 Norwegian kroner.

Fairfx’s ski report - www.fairfx.com. Fairfx compared the weekly local costs of seven-day lift passes, a morning’s tuition each day for six days and hire of basic beginners’ skis and boots for seven days at 59 resorts in 19 countries in Europe and North America. The prices were calculated using local currency and then converted into pounds (rates per October 23 2015). The resorts were chosen based on the most popular winter sports holiday destinations marketed by tour operators and then bolstered by up-and-coming resorts.
